Description

Located in the heart of the Dallas Arts District, the Nasher Sculpture Center houses one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary sculpture including masterpieces by Calder, Giacometti, Hepworth, Matisse, Miro, Moore, Picasso and Rodin. The Center features a 55,000 square foot building and a 1.5 acre sculpture garden. The Center offers two types of visits. Docent-guided tours include an overview of the collection, including 5-6 stops looking closely at sculptures, discussing artists, and placing the works of art in historical context. Docent guided tours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 am and 11 am. Self-guided vists can be booked throughout the week. Tours are open to all disciplines.

Students Will

  • Learn about the process of making sculpture through docent information and by looking at works of art.
  • Place works of art in historical context - discussing significant events in world history.
  • Learn from docent's detailed information on artists and sculpture and make connections between different works of art.
  • Look closely at original works of art of varied materials, shapes, and sizes created by artists from around the world.

Times: Docent guided tours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting times at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Self-guided visits: Tuesdays-Fridays beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Duration: One hour long
School Fee: All students and required chaperones are admitted free if visit is booked in advance. Advance reservation required.
