Description
Michael teaches students to play a variety of ethnic drums and percussion instruments, including African dununs and djembes, Middle Eastern doumbeks and Latin style drums, as well as a variety of shakers, scrapers, and bells. Your class will exercise teamwork and leadership skills as they learn entire songs and improvisational techniques. This exciting residency also targets concentration, counting, pattern sequencing, and verbal and non-verbal communication.

Students Will
  • see a variety of ancient and traditional musical instruments from around the world.
  • sing and provide accompaniment for songs from many countries.
  • help to compose and perform their own song.

Other Information: Minimum of two consecutive classes must participate. Also, all participating teachers must attend a 30-minute pre-residency planning meeting.

Deadline: Minimum of three weeks prior to requested start date.
Cancellation Policy: A program is confirmed when you receive your contract by mail, fax, or email. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, Young Audiences will offer the option of rescheduling or using a substitute artist. Programs canceled by a school or community presenter after confirmation are subject to full payment. A $25 rescheduling fee will be charged if a schedule change is requested after a program has been confirmed.
After School Policy: A teacher or afterschool employee must remain with class at all times.
